I don't know about you but I remember old school blogging like it was yesterday. I thought we could go back in time and reminisce over blogging back in the day and things that we can all probably relate to if you've been a blogger for a while - let's get into it!
1. Old beauty favourites
I was a sucker for hyped up products years ago and it looks like some things never change as I'm still the exact same now! If I see a blogger talking about a specific product and it looks amazing, I'll want it. Was there anything better than Essie Mint Candy Apple though? Rimmel 107 Lipstick? Barry M Cracked Nail Polish? I think not.
2. Outfit posts
We all know the classic throwback outfit posts - posing awkwardly in your bedroom, rubbish lighting, trying to balance your camera on a pile of books trying to get the perfect shot wearing disco pants and Peter Pan collar tops. I found my old disco pants in my wardrobe the other day and I wish they were still cool today.
3. Blog rolls
Who remembers that page you'd have on your blog showing off some of your favourite blogs where you'd include their blog link (mainly your blogging pals) and the excitement you'd get when you saw you were featured on someones blog roll? It was the equivalent of today's excitement when you gain followers on Instagram because thanks to this new crap algorithm, it's pretty impossible to grow your following on there! Those buying bots, not so hard... *sips tea*
4. Commenting
I'll hold my hands up and say I don't comment on as many blogs as I should. I always forget to do it however I'm the first to tweet someone saying I loved their post, outfit etc or leave an Instagram comment which I think can be said for a lot of us these days. Throw it back to 2 or 3 years ago and everyone would leave blog comments and part of me wishes the same could still be said today.
5. Blog sales
There was nothing quite like trying to sell your old Nars blush which had been living in your cupboard for months via a blog post! I remember gathering together lots of old products I wanted to get rid of, photographing them and uploading a ''Blog Sale'' post hoping that someone would buy something. Blog sales were life! Who wouldn't want cheaper beauty products?
Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin to never miss a post!
Don't hesitate to drop me an email contactbethlouise@gmail.com regarding collaborations, PR opportunities or if you want to ask me a general question - I'll always get back to you!
Omg this takes me back! I didn't publish my first blog back in the day but I was following the scene. Essie Mint Candy Apple just transported me back to 2010!
ReplyDeleteEveryone loved Essie Mint Candy Apple!
DeleteI miss outfit posts so much, I feel like now they're too profesh haha x

Yeah definitely. No one does the awkward poses anymore!
DeleteBefore I launched PORE (www.poremagazine.co.uk) I made several blogs (from Katepetali to Sixth Skyline) and I remember all of those. The blog sales stands out the most as I wasn't fortunate enough to get lots of comments. Also before everyone would upload a lot more frequently, now it's a few times a month which is such a shame.

DeleteOMG I love this post! I've stepped away from blogging for about a year now and I really miss it! This post has made me want to get back into it more then ever lol. I sometimes look back at my very first blog posts (which are now hidden thank god!) and will miss the good old blogging days! Thanks for this post!

Yep, I miss old times as well. Old blogging, chats, forum. Do you remember the old chats? Like not that ones on Snapchat or Viber, but the whole site, with rooms and private messaging. And then ICQ, QIP, Miranda. Gosh I'm s old( I still remember the times when Essayedge rating wasn't excellent! It was so long time ago
ReplyDeleteGOD I MISS THE GOOD OLD DAYS (and suddenly I sound just like my mother). Maybe we should all come together and to a Trow Back Week on old school posts or something xD
ReplyDeleteLove,
Ana
